Doctor of Pastoral Music (D.P.M.)

If you are an experienced church musician who already has a Master of Sacred Music degree but is looking to develop your pastoral skills, the Doctor of Pastoral Music is for you. The Doctor of Pastoral Music is where worship and pastoral ministry meet. With this degree, you will learn to holistically improve the relationships and performance of your musicians, integrate church tradition with new developments in liturgy and culture, and develop strategies for music outreach into the community.

The Doctor of Pastoral Music program at Perkins offers courses to broaden your musical skill set and strengthen your understanding of the role of leadership in music. Some of those courses include:

  • Vocation, Leadership, and Community
  • Models of Leadership, Social Institutions, and Community Engagement
  • Music and Arts in Missional Ministry
  • Issues in Liturgical Theology and Practice
  • Music in Worship and Renewal
